Hi loves! I have a really special post today, I recently went to dinner at Duck & Waffle to celebrate a friend’s birthday and managed to take some good shots for you all!
I have ALWAYS wanted to go here, not so much for the food but the view seems absolutely incredible. It’s on the 40th floor of The Heron Tower, with a glass lift facing the outside of the building. You can see everything going up and it really is very high giving me a few goosebumps!
Here are some shots of the view:
(You can see the Gherkin and the London Bridge!)
We started off with some wine – Glass of Malbec (£10) & Rosé (£7.5). Here is the wine list.
We ordered a bread, 2 small plates and the signature duck & waffle which was a good amount for two girls. See the full menu here.
Firstly, this is the Dorset crab with seaweed crackers, oyster emulsion and black pepper (£15). Sounds quite strange but trust me when I say it is to-die-for if you love crab. Each individual part of the dish tastes delicious alone and when tasted all together – Food Heaven! This was by far my favourite dish of this trip.
Next is this freshly baked bread, with N’duja & Gruyere (£6). It’s sort of like a pizza in a way, it’s topped with spicy minced sausage and gruyere cheese. Warm, spicy and cheesy, you can’t go wrong with it!
This is the Wild Cornish Pollock meatballs with lobster cream and parmesan (£11). It has a golden breadcrumb and parmesan crust with a creamy, packed-with-flavour sauce covering the fish meatballs. The texture is very unique, had I not already known, I would have never guessed it was fish. It has a very soft, almost chewy bread-y texture. The sauce was a little too salty for my taste buds but nonetheless it was delicious.
Finally, the infamous Duck & Waffle (£17) – It literally is half a dense waffle, roasted crispy duck leg, fried egg with a runny yolk and maple syrup. Surprisingly, this was my least favourite dish, the duck was very good but the combination was just a little strange for me, possibly because I’m not a big fan of waffles (shocking I know right?!). On the other hand, the birthday girl really really loved this dish so I guess it’s just up to personal preference. Don’t be put off by my opinion because I still think it’s a unique dish worth trying.
After our meal, the waiter came and asked whether it was a special occasion and brought us this on the house! Beautiful chocolate work!
I must add that the service here was exceptionally good, not like anywhere I have been before and made my experience that much more amazing. I also thought it was going to be super expensive but it actually wasn’t too bad, we ended up paying around £35 each. Overall, I really recommend Duck & Waffle, it’s amazing for special occasions and I guarantee you will enjoy it! The place is booked for weeks in advance so get booking asap if you want to go.
Afterwards, we stayed for some drinks at the bar to enjoy the view a little longer. They have very unique and different cocktails – none of which took my fancy so the bartender asked for what kind of drinks I liked and made me this lush raspberry martini! 100% recommend!
Food – 4/5
Restaurant – 5/5
Price – 4/5
Service – 5/5
Hope you enjoyed,
Rose x
